Introduction

Network Engineering major, established in 2006, has cultivated nearly 200 students. There are more than 90 students and 65 full-time teachers. Network Engineering belongs to College of Information Engineering. There are Network Lab, Sensorweb Lab and Mobile Internet Lab, with advanced computers and network equipment.

Objective

This major is aimed to comprehensively cultivate students with morality, intelligence, physique and aesthetic ability. The talents are expected to master basic theory of network engineering, skills and methods of computer network system, such as planning and design, setting and maintenance, security and management, capable of undertaking the construction of computer network, developing network application system, network doing management and maintenance work.

Characteristics

This major, one of the earliest enrollment of undergraduates, has gradually formed its own mode of "solid foundation, wide requirements and strong application". It is to strengthen teaching basic courses, and to cultivate the ability to grasp necessary maths and other related knowledge of natural science. The students are supposed to master the basic theory of computer science and technology, network engineering, and the application of Internet of Things, and to master the basic methods of computer network system architecture, application management; They are supposed to basically master network project, and the methods of analyzing and designing the network application system and the implementation process, and to learn the development trend and new technology of the discipline, the development of new equipment and some relevant knowledge.

Students are supposed to have the the ability of planning and designing of computer network system, setting and maintenance, security and management, the ability to manage network engineering, and the application and maintenance of network equipment, and the ability to plan, develop, debug and deploy small websites. Students should have good scientific literacy, engineering consciousness, the sense of innovation and entrepreneurship, the rigorous scientific attitude and the pragmatic work style; the ability of solve practical problems;

On the training direction, the compound talents are educated with the core of advancing the application ability, the skills of network direction, website building direction and the direction of the Internet of Things, so as to enhance students’ knowledge and ability. Attention is focused on students’ innovation. Classroom teaching is the basis, practice is the support and the second class is the expansion. This mode has gained some achievements.

Nowadays, with rapid development of Internet and the flourishment of cyber economy, network engineering technology has become one of the hottest technologies in the field of information technology and it is also a comprehensive discipline widely used in the information society. Moreover, network engineers play a paramount role in this discipline. With the rapid development of information technology as well as the acceleration of globalization, network security has become more and more significant.
